The UAE has long
been a venue for first class cricket. The initial impetus was provided
by Sharjah which has hosted many top-flight internationals over the
years and helped establish the Emirates as an international sporting
venue.
Today cricket is
hugely popular throughout the UAE which has excellent club facilities
and its own governing body.
The Capital is a particular stronghold, due in no small part to the
superb facilities at Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium.
Boasting the biggest
known cantilever at the time of construction, the Grandstand appropriately
assumes the shape of a cricket cap rim.
